The MBA Charitable Trust
01 Feb 2013
A new charitable trust to offer free advice to charities and social enterprises is being launched by graduates of the UCC Executive MBA.
The aims of the trust are to harness the knowledge and experience of the MBA alumni business network to support not for profit organisations develop their resources and capabilities and become more sustainable
‘In the current economic climate we want to share the expertise we gained through the MBA to help chart a sustainable future for charitable organisations in this region’, said Ger O’Leary who chairs the new trust.
The trust will be officially launched through a Blacktie Ball on February 23, the proceeds of which will go to Good Shepherd Services and Cope Foundation.
To coincide with UCC’s Executive MBA programme cycle, it is planned to hold the Blacktie Ball on a biennial basis and it is hoped that the Ball will become a focus for Alumni reunions and also business networking opportunity.
Dr Joan Buckley who directs the UCC Executive MBA is pledging the support of the programme to the trust. She said ‘it is really impressive that our MBA alumni are committing themselves and their expertise to help charitable bodies, especially as most of those groups are really feeling the pressure of the current recession’
Two Cork based companies BAM Construction and Keanes Jewellers are also getting involved by sponsoring the Blacktie Ball. Greater detail on the trust and its plans to extend its resources and expertise base to meet the needs of charities will be announced at the ball.
Inaugural MBA Trust Ball
26 Feb 2013
The inaugural MBA Trust Ball was held in the Radisson Hotel last Saturday with 250 people in attendance. The trust was launched by graduates of the UCC Executive MBA and it offers free business advice to charities and social enterprises. “The Ball was an outstanding success, everyone really enjoyed themselves, we got great engagement from the MBA network and we managed to raise much needed funds for our chosen charities” said Mark Fox who is a director of the MBA Trust.
The CEO of Bernardos Fergus Finlay who was the key note speaker at the event said he applauded the UCC Exec MBA class on their unique and very positive initiative which would be welcomed by all those in the charitable sector who were now required to do so much more with less.
The ball was sponsored by Bam Construction and Keanes Jewellers and proceeds of the ball are going to Cope Foundation and Good Shepherd Services. On the night people were greeted to a champagne reception sponsored by Lidl. Entertainment was provided by impressionist and comedian Oliver Callan as well as live music from ‘The Loungeman’ and ‘Collage’.
To coincide with UCC’s Executive MBA programme cycle, it is planned to hold the Blacktie Ball on a biennial basis and it is hoped that along with the Ball being a platform for the MBA trust, it will become a focus for Alumni reunions and also a business networking opportunity.
The initiative is largely run by MBA graduates but welcomes assistance and support from anyone who feels they can contribute their expertise and experience to benefit charities and social enterprises. Further details are available here.
